To quote King David:

For you created my inmost being;

you knit me together in my mother’s womb.

I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made,

I know that full well.

from Psalm 139

I have been very impressed by a story taken from Loren Eiseley’s “The Star Thrower”.
This book contains the well known tale of an encounter on a beach with a man who was picking up starfish and gently throwing them back into the sea, so that they would not die in the sun.
I love the way he is asked what possible difference he could make, as there were so many of these creatures on the long beach.
This is where we hear the famous line, “Well, I made a difference to that one, didn’t I?”

A friend of mine once said although she could not change the world, she could possibly change it for one person.
Perhaps we should all do as Steve Stills sang, and “Love the one you’re with”.
Let us not miss the opportunities under our noses by looking for something beyond our reach.

I once met a very sweet elderly lady who had written a story about a child who found a pair of 5-dimensional glasses. With these she was able to see all the glorious technicolour life that is hidden behind or within normal things we see every day.

Human beings love to surmise about such things, suggesting that perhaps there is another dimension to existence. If there was, would we not all want to see it?
Of course we would.
Why else would stories like C.S. Lewis’ “The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe” be so evocative and magnetic?

Let us consider whether there is any way to access this level of reality, if that is what it is, in the light of Jesus’ teaching, and the teaching of those he taught.
I have found that being close to God is like moving beyond the normal three dimensions. Imagine that you are a two dimensional being, unable to see anything beyond your flat plane. Imagine yourself  lifted up above that plane, now aware of height as well as breadth. Similarly, one minute you could be thinking ordinary earthbound thoughts, the next minute you could be seeing the world, as it were, from a wider perspective. This is mentally and spiritually the equivalent of seeing Earth as the space explorers have seen it. God is enabling you to see a little of what he sees, which is the basis of enlightenment and prophecy.
This reminds me of what happened to Jesus’ disciple, John, the author of ”Revelation”, the last book in the Bible. His prophetic vision gave him a huge insight into history and the future, for the benefit of mankind.
This demonstrates that God wants us to experience the way he sees things, which is why Jesus said in one of his recorded prayers, “Father, I want them (my friends) to be with me where I am”. He stated that he wanted us all to have the same relationship with God that he had.
As a result, the Bible proves to be a book which can come alive when you read it, because, as Jesus said, the writings spoke about him, and God speaks directly through the written words. This is very exciting indeed. If God can say, “My thoughts are not your thoughts”, does that mean that he is happy with that difference between us and him?

I don’t believe so. Everything points to the fact that he wants us to think like him.
